Thank you for purchasing Sony Media Software Vegas Movie Studio 6.0
software. This document contains information about installing
and using Vegas Movie Studio software on
your computer.
Note: Not all features are available in all versions of Vegas Movie Studio software. Please refer to
each feature's main help topic for more information about the feature and the versions
of the software that include it. The default help topic includes a quick chart to help you determine which features are available in each version of the software.
Notable Fixes/Changes in Version 6.0a
- VR-mode discs are now supported when importing video from a finalized Sony DVD Handycam® camcorder disc. Please see Known Issues for additional information.
- A problem has been fixed that could cause problems when reading AVI files with MP3-encoded audio.
- New widescreen and DVD templates have been added to the New Project Wizard.
- A Use widescreen DVD format check box has been added to the Burn it to DVD portion of the Make Movie Wizard.

fade lengths between selected and nonselected events
- Regions and markers that occur at the end of rendered file are now adjusted
so they occur on the last audio sample of the rendered file. If you're
rendering the loop region only, any region that extends beyond the loop
region is adjust so the region end occurs on the last audio sample. This
adjustment prevents warning messages when the rendered files are opened
in Sound Forge software.
Hardware
- Support for capturing from HDV cameras (Available only in Vegas Movie Studio Platinum software)
- If you have a USB SmartMedia reader device installed on
your PC, you may experience problems when you attempt to
access your CD drive from Vegas Movie Studio software for extracting
audio or burning CDs. This is due to an error in the SmartMedia
reader driver. Using the Unplug or Eject Hardware Wizard
to remove the reader should allow Vegas Movie Studio software to function
normally.
- 24-bit Windows Media Audio files will always be read as
16-bit files in Windows 2000 (multichannel files are read
as 16-bit stereo). This is a limitation of the operating
system. You can render 24-bit WMA files, but if you want
to read these files as 24-bit audio, copy them to a Windows
XP machine.
- HDV capture requires that you have a registered version
of the Sony MPEG-2 plug-in on your system.
- You can use native HDV MPEG-2 transport streams on the
Vegas Movie Studio Platinum timeline, but playback performance will be poor on
most systems. We recommend you convert the native HDV footage—or
selected portions of it—to an HDV intermediate format
for timeline editing. You can add your native HDV files
on the timeline, create regions for selected scenes, and
then render to an intermediate format to create multiple intermediate
files. For more information about working with HDV, please
refer to the online help.
- If you are printing a rendered file to HDV tape,
the file must precisely conform to the target HDV
device
and file type requirements, or the print-to-tape operation
will fail. Rendering using the provided HDV MPEG-2 render
templates—unmodified in any way—is required to successfully
print to HDV tape.
- The Sony Handycam USB driver that is included with DVD-based camcorders can prevent Vegas Movie Studio from recognizing a USB-connected camera. If you use the Add/Remove Programs Control Panel to uninstall the "Sony DVD Handycam USB driver" component, Vegas Movie Studio will be able connect to the camera and import video using Import > DVD Camcorder Disc.
- 5.1-channel audio will be downmixed to stereo when importing video from a DVD camcorder disc.
- VR mode requires Windows XP SP2 or greater.

The install utility creates any necessary folders and copies all files required by Vegas Movie Studio software to your computer.
Installing from CD
- Place the Vegas Movie Studio CD-ROM in the drive. The setup screen
is displayed (if CD-ROM AutoPlay is enabled).

If you have disabled the CD-ROM AutoPlay
feature, click the Start button and choose Run. Type
D:\setup.exe, where D is the drive letter of your
CD-ROM drive, and follow the on-screen prompts to
complete the installation. |
- Click Install, and then follow the on-screen
prompts to install the appropriate version of Vegas Movie Studio for
your computer.
Installing from the Web
- Download the install utility from our Web
site.
- Double-click the file, and then follow the on-screen prompts
to install the appropriate version of Vegas Movie Studio for your computer.
6.0 Vegas User Manual Included on the Vegas Movie Studio CD is a complete Vegas User Manual
in Adobe Acrobat (PDF) format. The Acrobat format allows easy
printing of the text, should you need a hard copy. The manual
is located in the Manual folder on the CD.
Installing Adobe Reader
In order to view the manual, you will need to install
the Adobe Reader. It has been included on the CD in the
\Extras\Adobe Reader folder for your convenience. To
install Acrobat Reader, follow these steps:
- Place the Vegas Movie Studio CD in the drive. AutoPlay
launches an installation menu.

If you have disabled the CD-ROM AutoPlay
feature, click the Start button and choose Run. Type
D:\Extras\Adobe Reader\English\AdbeRdr70_enu_full.exe,
where D is the drive letter of your CD-ROM drive,
and follow the on-screen prompts to complete the installation. |
- Choose Browse CD, and then browse to
the D:\Extras\Adobe Reader\English\ folder.
- Double-click the AdbeRdr70_enu_full.exe icon and follow
the on-screen prompts to complete the installation.
